according to the Church of England and for the Mainte-
nance of Ministers read the first & second Times & Passed
by the House which said Bill was also read the second Time
and agreed to by his Majesty's Council also a bill prohib-
iting Horse races on Saturdays read and agreed to pass
and sent to the House by Col Addison, Col Courts Mr
Brooke Col Hammond Col. Lloyd Lt Col. Holland and
Mr Saunders.
His Excellency acquainting the Gentlemen of the Council
that during his late Indisposition he had addressed his
Majesty for his Leave to return for England for Recovery
of his Health and produced his Majesty's Leave therefore
in his said Majesty's Letter of the 28th of June 1701 which
was read at the Board & upon that occasion all the Gen-
tlemen of the Council expressed their Concern for his
Excellency's Departure under whose Government his Maj-
esty's Subjects here have been so easy that they can never
hope for better Treatment from any other
And every one of the Gentlemen of the Council in par-
ticular Expressed their sorrow for his Excellencys Return

for England after which his Excellency was pleased to write
to the House of Delegates as followeth

Gentlemen
At my first coming into this Province I gave it you under
my Hand that I never would put on the least Masque of
Disguise in my Actions with you, and I hope I have been
strictly just in it in all Particulars
Therefore I hold myself obliged not to conceal my going
for England upon any Account or Prospect whatsoever
I Have sollicited his Majesty for his Leave to go Home
for the Recovery of my Health which he has been graciously
pleased to grant me and in order to it I have some Thoughts
of going this summer therefore if I can be of any Signal
Service to you there; I will do it with the same Alacrity &
Honesty I have demonstrated to you here, and as I came into
the Province unprejudiced, so I solemnly declare I shall leave
it without the least ill Impression of any Person whatsoever
which was sent to the House by Col Addison Mr Brooke Col
Courts Col Hammond & Col Lloyd
The Board adjourned till 8 of the clock to morrow morning
