Journal.

Which being here read and fully Considered. It is Re-
solved by the house that the further Consideracon thereof be
referred till the next Sessions of Assembly.
Message by Thomas Tench Esqr and Collo Jno Addison
relateing to the rangers was read, viz.

By his Excy the Govr and Councill in Assembly
May 15th 1701.

Forasmuch as the affaires of the piscattaway Indians does
not yett seem to have the wisht for Conclusion that is of their
being come in and quietly settled among us. It is the opinion
of this Board that the Rangers on the frontiers of potomack
should be still kept out for the better assurance and Securely
of the Inhabitants there who have occasion to believe upon
their being drawne of will be soe farr discouraged even to
quitt some of the Extreemest Settements to our Dishont and
encouragement of our ill neighbours the Indians who will
rejoyce thereat.
Therefore we desire you will Considerately concert this
matter viz : Whether they shalbe further continued or totally
disbanded and Give us yor oppinions for the one or the other.
We further recommend to you by some act this Sessions to
continue the Coun" for consulting wt measures are to be taken
for the Safety and defence of the province agt the invasions
and incursions of the Indians as formerly.

Which being here read and by the House fully debated, It
is putt to the question whether the rangers shalbe continued
or Disbanded. And Carried by majority of voices that the
Rangers be utterly disbanded. And it is unanimously Re-
solved by the house that there be noe comittee to consult
about the Indian affaires.
Message by Esqre Tench and Collo Jno Addison relateing
to a further impost of 3d p hogshead to be laid on Tobo
&c towards Defraying the publick Charge. Was alsoe read
as foll.

By his Excy the Govr and Councill in Assembly
May 5th 1701.

It being represented that the funds raised by the present
Acts of Assembly now on foot are very inconsiderable towards
defraying the necessary charges of this province, It is recom-
mended to yor house that a further impost of 3d p hhd be
