The Lower House. 185


By the house of Dell. May 15th 1701.

This house having taken into Consideracon the Message
of the 13th Instant by Thos Tench Esqr Collo Addison Tho:
Brooke Esqr and Collo Hamond relateing to the free Schoole.
As to that part wherein it is recommended to this house to
Consider how the best use may be made of the Schoole house
and that care may be taken for a convenient place for the
Councill to sett in, This house have Resolved to referr the
Same to the next Sessions of Assembly.
And as to that part wherein it is desired that a handsome
place may be provided to Lodge the publick armes in.
This house answers that they have purchased a house of
Majr Edwd Dorsey for that purpose and t'was ordered that a
Comittee be appointed to veiw the said house and report wt
repayres it wants and the estimate of such repayres and Like-
wise to agree with any psons that are willing to undertake the
repayres thereof, and make the same fitt for such uses, which
Committee Reported to this house wt repayres are necessary
to make the said house Serviceable and that Mr Richd Beard
would willing undertake the worke for twelve pounds sterlg
to be finished by the last of August next. If your Excy please
please to concurr therewith.

Which being read, Ordered that Majr Wm Dent Mr Elisha
Hall, Mr Hamond Mr John Salter, Mr Wm Parker be sent up
with the the aforegoing three Bills here read Ist and 2d time
and the message ppared yesterday and that prepared this day
to his Excy and Councill.
They returne and say the Councill are not Sitting. Com-
mittee of Laws enters the house and Delivers Mr Speaker the
following Bills.
Bill to encourage importing Corne into this province.
Bill for more Speedy obtaining Execucons agt psons flyeing
out of the County where Iudgmt is recovered. Ordered to be
read in the afternoon.
The Gent: before appointed to carry the bills &c are againe
ordered to carry the same with the messages to his Excy in
Councill.
They returne and say they delivered their message.
Mr John Bozman Navall officer for Somersett County ap-
peared and laid before this house his publick acct or an esti-
mate thereof but for as much as he cannot prove it longer time
is given him.
The Gent: before appoynted to carry the messages are
againe sent with them to his Excy and Councill.
