Journal.

Implements of War we have many in the Severall Countys
being unservisable and out of Kelter.
From these premises we pray yor Excellcy to Condescend
& give Orders that so much money out of that fund as upon
a reasonable Computation shall be Judged necessary may be
applyed to fitt & make Serviceable those Arms & Imple-

ments of War in the sevrall Countys as may Compleat the
Same and that some fitting Persons in the Severall Countys
may be Impowered to receive the said Money and see the
work performed &c. And return an Account thereof to Your
Excellency which We humbly hope and Conceive is conso-
nant to his Matys gratious Intentions and will be favorably
received and Granted by your Excellency.

Which being read att the Board his Excellency requires
their Opinion if the Applying part of the 3d p hhd by his Maty
given for purchasing Arms & Amunition for the Service of
this Province to the Cleansing and keeping the said Arms
well ffixed and in good Order be Consonant to his Matys In-
tention in bestowing that Revenue, to which they Answer
that they do believe it is.
Whereupon his Excellency is pleased to send the following
Answer to the house by Thomas Tench & James Frisby Esqr

Gentn
His Maty has been very gracious in having a peculiar Care
to avoid the laying of any Burthen upon you in this Province
he having allotted the 3d p hhd for the Purchasing Arms &c.
Tho most of his Governmts in the West Indies to my knowl-

edge are Constrained to Supply themselves.
I must remark to you that the Money arising from the
Duty of 3d p hhd is to be disposed onely by my Selfe and
his Matys Councill here and therefore must be very Cautious
in making any misapplication of it but since this Seems not
to cary the face of being repugnant to my Instructions or att
least by the Litteral Words I must Construe it soe & that it
will be an Ease to the Country which I am allways ready to
Oblige, The Gentn of his Matys Councill are pleased to Joine
with me in Assenting to it and desire you will make your
Proposalls what may be Expected Sufficient for each County
