of A Speedy way of determineing the same many great
charges and illconveniencys have and may happen thereupon
by the said controversyes being brought from the remotest
partes of this province to be heard and determined before the
Govr and Councill to the Very great trouble of the persons
concerned and the publick charge which to prevent and to
give A Speedy redress in all such matters.
Be it Enacted by the Kings most Ext Majty by and with the
Advice and Consent of this psent Genll Assembly and the
Authority of the same that the psons in this Act hereafter
mentioned and Appointed be and are hereby Authorized and
impowered to heare and determine all manner of Controver-
syes and Differences whatsoever That shall or may hereafter
happen or grow between the English and Indians in private
or psonall Controversys not Exceeding the Vallue of Twenty
Shillings Sterling (That is to say) The Choptico Indians and
the English in St. Mary's County and the parts Adjacent
Ralph Foster and James Swann and for the Accokick Pis-
cattaway and Paymonkey Indians and the English in Charles
and Prince Georges County and the parts Adjacent Coll Jno

Addison Mr Wm Hatton and Major James Smallwood and for
the Susquehannahs Sha van nails and Dellaware Indians and
others in those ffrontiers Collo Jno Thompson and Mr Edward
Blay And for the Nanticoke Abapcoes and Haewop Indians
and the English in Dorchester County and partes Adjacent
Leivt CoH Thoms Ennalls and Mr Thomas Hicks and for the
Monokins Rokohankins and Monte Indians and the English
in Somersett County and partes Adjacent Coll Wm Whitting-
ton and Mr Levin Denwood Senr And be it Enacted by the
Authority aforesaid that all and every the psons in this Act
before mentioned be and are hereby Authorized and Empow-
ered upon heareing or determineing any such difference or
Controversy as Aforesaid and Judgment thereupon Given
either party refuseing to performe the same then and in every
such case the person or persons so empowered shall by way
of distress take into his Custody the goods and Chattells of
the Offender and out of the same make full sattisfaction to
the party Wronged att the discretion of the psons soe Au-
thorized and by this Act Empowered and the Overplus to
returne to the owners thereof
And be it further Enacted by the Authority Aforesd that if
any such difference shall happen between the English & the
Indians in this Province where particular psons are not herein
nominated and appointed to heare and determine the same
as aforesaid that then and in every such case the next Justice
of Peace is hereby Empowered to heare and determine the said
differences According to the rules & methods herein prscribed.
