ernmt They ought to be sent to, to give their Reasons, wch for Lib. H. D. the Generall Satisfaction and quieting the peoples minds will be best to be done in an Assembly seeing the last Treaty with them was perform'd that way. The sd matter being Seriously and fully debated It is the Opinion of the Severall Gentlemen prsent that it will be most for his Mats Service, and Good and benefit of the Countrey, that (upon this Emergency of Affairs considering all Circum stances) the Assembly doe meet the 26th of May instant pur suant to the late Proclamacon if the sd Indians may be procured to meet here by that time as it is Generally agreed they may.
Assbly Ap- Resolved therefore and Ordered that the Assem meet 26th of bly meet the 26th instant accordingly, and that an May next Express be sent to Majr Wm Barton with Directions to goe to the Emperr of Piscattoway & the rest of his Great men in Virga to acquaint them that the Assembly is on purpose Called to know their Reasons for deserting their ffort and going out of the Province in that manner and to give them Notice to be here the day appointed and to tell them that his Exncy the Governr does Order that they give him a Meeting at their ffort or Coll: Addisons House (which they like best) for to discourse them, being intended (God willing) to be at Coll: Addisons on Munday Night next, where if they should not Come by that time that then they should find him the next day at the ffort to which the sd Majr Barton is hereby directed and Ordered to Conform himself accordingly by dispatching to go to the Emperor on the sd Message. Produced by Majr John Thompson of Ccecill County a Certain Paper containing Some heads of a Declaracon &ca (by him written from the mouths of two of the great men) sent by the Susquehannah King in Relation to the Murder lately Com mitted in those parts, which was Read as followes Vizt

the late Mur- desire me to acquaint Yor Exncy that they are Sorry ther in Coecill . County that a Brother of theirs who is a Christian should p. 481 be kill'd and that they are noe ways Culpable of the murder and as a Token it is True they sent by me to yor Exncy a Belt of Peak.
They do Suppose that the Chaharoone Indians, which they had taken two of them Captives, who have now lately Escaped from them, and are Enemies to us both, have done this murder, and do hope that nothwistanding the Blood is Spilt upon the
