On the Back of the sd Proclamacon was thus written Vizt The Sheriffs are likewise Ordered to give Publick notice how that the Court of Chancery and the Governr and Councill for hearing Appeals and Writs of Error will Sit at the End of the next Provinciall Court pursuant to an Order of my Self and Councill of the 9th of Decr past. ffr: Nicholson
It being Reprsented that the State House Work was much neglected; a Lre thereon was drawn up, in Ordr to be sent to Coll: Herman, as follows Vizt
Port of Annapolis, March the 16th 1696/7. His ExnCys Lre Coll: Herman. to Coll Herman . abt the State I do admire you should so trifle with the House &ca Countrey in yor extraordinary delay about the State House Work, which for ought I see is not likely to be ffinish'd this half year yet, at the rate of yor manner of pro ceeding; besides the damage which will Ensue for want of the House being done—The Records lying in a very great danger to be spoyld by gusty weather and exposed to the hazard of burning in the place, they are now lodged, and the Countrey put to further Charge for House Rent—This comes therefore Express to acquaint you tht if you don't forthwith come down & bring all workmen & materialls necessary for ffinishing thereof, so that it may be fully complea ted by the of may next (having deferr'd the provll Court till then for yor gaining time) you must expect to be Arrested in an Action of 2000 ll sterl. in behalfe of the Countrey & in the interim I shall take Care to imploy men to ffinish it_Yor imediate Answer is Required hereto from Read & Approved off, in Councill. ffr: Nicholson H.
