Mr Philip Clark being brought to Town in Custody of Robert Clark under Sheriff of St Marys County His Excellency is pleased to tell the said Philip Clark that he had sent for him because it appeared to him & his Majestys honble Coun cil by many Depositions that he Iohn Cood Robert Mason & Gerrd Sly had endeavoured to raise a disturbance in the Province even tending to actual Rebellion And that it appeared by the Sheriffs return of the Praecept to him directed that he the said Clark had fled thereupon Mr Philip Clark says that he did not fly he is told that he went into Virginia & says he was there about five or six days Mr Clark being asked if he had been in Goods Company in Virginia says that he has & eat & drank with him at Mr Spen cers in Virginia Is asked if he surrendered himself upon his Excellencys Proclamation & says he did not Is asked if he knows were Good is now Mr Clark says he has not seen him since he was last in Virginia And being asked if Cood was not at the General Court in Virginia says he thinks he heard him say he was The said Mr Clark is told that the reason why his Excellency sent for him up so soon before the Court is not only to put an end to & prevent his raising further Disturbances & Como tions but to convince him & his Associates that he was to be taken by a warrant from his Excellency & that none of them were above the Law p. 125 The said Mr Clark is asked if he never had any corn muni cation with one Mr Hunter a Iesuit says never but once Produced & read a paper containing several Articles of Charge against his Excellency the Govr Mr Clark says it does not concern him but thinks he had heard Cood read such a paper. And an Article Accusing his Excellency of Chambering & threatning the members of Assembly to make them comply with him His Excellency is pleased to say that he did send for Clark because he understood he had a Letter from the Treasurer of
