Sr Whitehall Augt the 23th 1698 p. 238 We have lately received by the hands of Sr Thomas Lawrence your Lre of the 28th of May together with the pub- lick papers mentioned in the Catalogues there inclosed. We have the less to write to you in Answer because his Maty haveing been pleased to appoint you to be Governor of Vir ginia Your Stay in Maryland will not be long your Comission for the Governmt of Virginia was dispatched from us some while agoe and is now past the great Seale Your Instructions are under Consideration and will Speedily be also perfected when that is done we shall have many things to write to you relateing to that Governmt But in the mean while what Chiefly make this Letter necessary in the Miscarriadge of ours of the 2d of Sept last in which were some things relateing to Mary land which deserved to be Observed we therefore Send you here inclosed a Duplicate thereof together with a Copy of his Matys Letter therein mentioned, As also of the Order of Councill about the Boundaryes between Maryland and Pensil vania and of Mr Penns Lre to Mr Markham upon the Subject Unto all which we refer our selves and remaine Yor very Loveing friends J Bridgewater Ph.
