X. but does not think himself Obliged to prove them p. 70 Read the 2d Article to which Sly says he is not Obliged to prove here is asked to name his Evidence but does not Read the third Article about imposing 6d p hhd on Tobacco brought from Virginia Sly says the Copy of his Excellencys Order thereon is with Mr Secretary Vernon 4th Article Sly Says the Copy of the Proclamation will Serve to prove it & as to his Excellencys saying his Interest was so strong that none would be heard against him, Sly says Cood has proof of it by great men his Excellency made use of As to the 5th Article Sly says Collo Cood says he Can prove it 6th Article, the Grants of Commission &Ca Sly says he can prove that Article in the case of Rogers & him 7th Article he keeps the Assembly on foot &ca Sly says he cannot prove that Article but there are them that will 8th Article he Causes new Members to be Elected &ca Sly says that several Papists Elected Captain Henry Smith of St Marys County 9th Article that he prosecutes & disturbs all them that are truly Loyal &Ca Sly says that Collo Good will prove that To the 10th Article Sly says that Mr Secry Vernon has that order 11th Article he presses horses contrary to Law &ca Sly says p. 71 Collo Good has the papers to prove it Came Captain Richard Hill who was admd 12th Article about Annapolis his Excellency is pleased to take Notice of the Word Annapolis & does Say he knows Slys drift therein but that at the same time there was another Town & Port named William Stdt 13th Article about Churches &ca Sly says there is a Church built upon his Land ready to tumble down before finished Whereupon his Excellency tells him he is a good Evidence against Cood who built that Church there, before his Excel lency came to this Government, the said Cood being a Vestry man of that parish & did not only cheat the Parish therein but likewise runaway with 15000 b of Tobacco of the fourty l p poll belonging to that Parish Mr Sly is asked if he has anything to say to the other Churches to which Sly says there is one built on Westwood Manor, & it is answered without his Assistance, Care had been taken therein & that his Excellency had recommended to the Assembly who had made a Law to Secure the Land to that Church 14th Article Misapplys the 40 l Tobacco p Poll & Defrauds
