450 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.

Credit to any thing he says & that he is now Called to Answer for what he has since he last arrived in this Province Then the said Mr Sly was ordered to withdraw The several Depositions relating to Mr Sly being Referred to Mr Robert Gouldesborrough of his Majestys Council at Law within this Province he makes Report that upon the Matters therein Contained he does find it absolutely Neces sary for the Preservation of his Majestys Government here, & the tranquillity thereof that the said Sly give further Security for his good Behaviour & appearance at the next Provincial Court In the Sum of four Thousand Pounds Sterl then & there to Answer unto Such Things as shall be Objected against him on his Majestys Behalf, but in regard there are not enough of his Majestys honble Council here present as will make a Coun cil but are expected on Monday next the said Sly is with the Advice of the Gentlemen present by his Excellencys special p. 69 Warrent Committed into the Custody of Mr Richard Beard high Sheriff of Ann Arundel County who is thereby directed to have him on Monday next before his Excellency & his Maj estys honourable Council then expected to meet at this Port Ordered that the Sheriff of Ann Arundel County take into his Custody Mr Samuel Cooksey whom he is to have ready at the time & place aforesaid

Collo Henry Iowles Chancellor Collo Iohn Addison the humble Thomas Brooke Esqr Major John Hammondof his Majestys Mr Robert Gouldsborrough Council at Law
Ordered that the Sheriff of Ann Arundell County bring Mr Gerrard Sly before the Board Came the said Sheriff & brought Mr Sly Who is asked whether those Articles he preferred be the Same he Subscribed Mr Sly say they are & the first Article being read wherein he Charges his Excellency to have Op posed the Establishment of the present Government His Excellency is pleased to ask him to prove the said Article & Commands him so to do
