Lib. x. busy in order to this Country for his Post And further assured the said Sly that if he could make out but two of the Articles he would lay Mr Nicholson on his back Mr Joshua Guibert Deposeth that Mr Gerrard Sly Mr Philip Clark & some others being at his house the Deponent pulled of Mr Clarks Cap & Seeming much offended said thus I bought that cap to face Nicholson, When Lieut Collo Low took Sly by virtue of a Praecept from the Council Board, Sly asked the Depot to be Bayle for him and he would Warrant him he would do that Damn'd fool Nicholsons Business for him Captain Richard Clouds Deposeth that on Friday the 24th of Iune 1698 being at Slys house the said Sly beckoning with p. 55 his finger Called him into his New Room & Shut the Door in which Room was Mr John Cood Senr who pulled out a written Book out of his Pocket & said such another as this hath made a Devil of one Government & doubted not but that he would make a Devil of this Government & that he had waited four days for an horse to go to Annapolis to wait on the Governor. That he heard Sly say the Governor durst not grant Commissions for fear of Displeasing King Iames George Muschamp Esqr Deposeth that being at Mr Slys on the 24th of Iune he there met accidentally Mr John Cood Senr who said he was a damned Cowardly Fool and would repent too late of what he had done in being for Mr Nicholson for that he the said Cood was not one of them fools the world took him to be, & said he had pulled down one Government & wou'd do the like by this Govt seeming to Glory much, and said he only wanted an horse to wait on the Governor Captain Edmund Payne Saw Iohn Cood Senr at his house on the 24th of June where the said Cood told him he feared being Seen by the Sheriffe but withal bid Defiance to any that would oppose him Collo Henry Mitchell Saith that being att Mr Syles Some time in May last, Sly took Pen Ink & Paper & with his own hand wrote Major Iohn Langstons Coming Governor of Maryland who Came by his means & procuring, Speaking Slightingly of his Excellency Governor Nicholson Said, there were many Governors whom the King did not know to be Governrs 56 Mr Philip Clark of St Marys County being in Company At the Same time Said that when the Governor was last in England in his Travels naming a Place in Yorkshire he kissed * * * * * * * * & drank a health out of it Iohn Shanks Deposeth that when he Served a praecept upon Mr SIye which required Special Bayle the said Sly huffed him & told him W Mason & he would do well enough for that, & Refused to give Bayle that when Sly last arrived Said Mason
