440 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.
Lib. x. Know all men by these prsents That we Edward Batson, Richard Marsham & Ninian Beal of the Province of Maryland aforesd gentn are holden and firmly bound unto his Excy ffrancis Nicholson Esqr his Matys Capt genll and Chiefe Governr of this Province in the full & Just Sume of one Thousand pounds of Lawfull money of England to be paid to the said ffrancis Nicholson Esqr his Exrs Admrs or Assignes to the which paymt well and truly to be made we bind our selves and either of us by himselfe our and either of our heires Exrs and Admrs Ioyntly & Sevrally for the whole and in the whole firmly by these ptsents Wittness our hands and Seales the 30th day of June 1698 The Condition of the above written Obligation is such that whereas his Excy ffrancis Nicholson Esqr aforesd hath Comis sionated and Appointed the said Edward Batson to be Navall Officer of the Porte of Annapolis within the sd Province by his Comission bearing equall date with these prsents Now if the sd Edward Batson shall well & truly pforme the said Office According to the Sevrall Acts of Parliamt in that Case made & provided and shall observe the directions Conteined In the Acts of Assembly of this province relateing to the Duty of Navll Officers and from time to time Save defend and keep harmless the sd ffrancis Nicholson Esqr from all Damage Loss and Charges that the sd ffrancis Nicholson shall Susteine att any time by reason of the sd Batsons non pformance of his said Office (so long as he shall enjoy the same) as is in said Severall Laws Enacted and Ordained Then the above Obli gacon to be Voyd and of none effect Otherwise to be and remaine in full force and Virtue Sealed and Delievered in Edward Batson [Seal] the prsence of Richard Marsham [Seal] Hen Iowles Ninian Beal[Seal] Thomas Tench Richd Hill
