Communicate to us at which day and place appointed we the Lib. X. Said psons nominated (Mr Vanderheyden only Excepted) mett and there Stayed till the 26th Instant by reason tht the King of the Susquehen and one of the Shavanole Kings were not Come the reason as was Suppoased of theire delay being a great fresh that filled the Runs & so retarded there Travell but they not Appearing the said 26th day we thought it not Convenient to stay any Longer one of the Shavanole Kings by name Penascok & Owhalla King of the Delleware Indians together with nine of his great men being mett according to Appointmt Capt Jos Hanse together with Hendrick Peterson & Cornelius Cornagys being Chosen and Sworn Interpreters Pursuant of the Aforesd Or& We proceeded to Informe them that Whereas Att a Committee Held att Annapolis June the P. 173 1st 1697 we were required to Represent that Certain Indians Outlyers upon the mountaines the names of Severall whereof were discovered and in another Order of Councill Inserted were Indians properly belonging to the Nation of the Susque hano which Nation were by the said Order required (foras much as they were in Amity with us) That they should call in theire mountaine Indians or be accomptable for them in Case of any Injuries or Damage To which they Answered it was Just & reasonable. It was Demanded if any of the said Indians nominated were Resident among them, to which they Answered in the Nega tive. 2dly We Informed them what measures were taken abt the Piscataway Indians which they well approved of desireing that the Amity & friendship wch they the said Shavanole & Delaware Indians ever professed to the English might stand & remaine Inviolate. 3d!y Beshaccus A Dellaware Indian and Interpreter Chosen by the Susquehanahs being asked if he had any thing to Communicate on the behalfe of the said Nation Sayd he Re ceived no further Instruction from them then that they would be prsent att the day & place appointed and seems to be under some Consternacon for theire non Appearance. 4thly It was acquainted them tht the prsents delivered by Beshaccus & Capt Hagrup to Coll Jon Thompson for his Excy were faithfully delivered & tht the said prsents were by his Excy Kindly Recd and tht he Expected to see them Att Annap olis where he would fully Satisfy them for their prsents. And we acquainted them likewise that his Excy never took any prsent from the Indians but he gave-them in Return for the same more then they were worth & that he Comonly tooke but one thing of a Sort and gave them back the rest on they shook hands with us in token they were well pleased & Satisfyed with his Excys kind acceptance.
