To all people to whom these prsents shall come or any ways Concerne Sr Thomas Lawrence Barrtt his Matys Prin ciple Secretary and Notary Publique of this Province Sendeth greeting Whereas his Excy ffrancis Nicholson Esqr his Matys Governr and his Matys Honble Councill have given leave for me the said Sr Thomas Laurence to go for England for the recovery of my health and I the said Sr Thomas being desire ous that all psons wtsoever may in my Absence be Supplyed with all necessary matters whereof the Execution belongs to my Office of Notary Publique I have made Constituted or dained and Appointed And by these prsents I do make Con stitute ordaine & Appoint John Thompson of Cecill County gent to be Deputy Notary Publique of the said County hereby giveing unto him the said John Thompson all and Ample Power & Authority to Act do pforme & fulfill all and Singular the Act and Acts Attestations Protests and all other necessary matters that have usually been pformed or ought to have been pformed in the said Office in as full and Ample mafler and as effectual to all Intents and purposes as if the Same were pformed by my selfe To have hould and Exercise the said Office of Deputy Notary Publick dureing my Absence out of this Province or untill his Majestys pleasure be further declared therein or my Orders to the Contrary made known to the sd John Thompson he the said John Thompson rendring unto the sd Sr Thomas Lawrence a full acctt of the profitts of the said Office of Deputy Notary Publique and paying Unto me the said Sr Thomas one halfe part of the full profitts thereof when Demanded In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seal this 20th day of May Annoq Dni 1698. [Conference with Indians.] Pursuant to an order of his Excy the Govr & Councill bear ing Date the 18th of October last past requireing those per sons appointed att the head of the Bay to treat with the Shavanole Delleware & Susquehannah Indians or the Major Part of them so soon as Could be to proceed on their said Treaty whereupon Notice was given to the severall Nations aforesaid that on the 23d day of May 1698 wee would meet them att the house of Capt. John Hanse then & there as well to Comunicate what by this Governt was given in Charge to Receive what by theire great men they had to
