                 420 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.

           

            Lib. x. the Reasons why the other Persons in Company with the said

            p. 42 Clark did not hear his discourse as well as her Self Does Say

                 that the said Clark directed his Discourse Solely to her &

                 perhaps might speak softly & that they might have been

                 Drinking before

                  W Harpam being Sworn by the honble Robt Smith Esqr

                 Chief Iustice of the Provincial Court does say that as to what

                 words were sworn to by Mrs Vansweeringen to have been said

                 by Captain Wilson upon the road he can Remember no further

                 discourse then that he heard him say he had been at Annap

                 olis & that some of the Members of the house had told him

                 there were some Papers to be burnt or Words to that Effect

                 as he verily believes But as to Mr Clark he Confesses he

                 heard him Say Some time before the City Election that the

                 Kings Lawyers would be called to Accot at the Assembly for

                 some Opinion they had given which he believed or hoped

                 would be found Contrary to Law or words to that Effect but

                 cannot tell which of those words hoping or Believing the said

                 Clark made use of but withal does say that Clark told him he

                 believes it would be a hot Assembly by Reason there were

                 many of the Natives in it

                  Ordered that Mr William Harpam Clk of the Mayors Court

                 of the City of St Marys do Return a Copy of all the Proceed

                 ings by him in the said Court Since his being Concerned as

                 Clk thereof which he is to make Oath to before the Iustices

                 of the County Court of St Marys & afterwards Transmit the

                 Same accordingly unto his Excellency at the Port of An.nap

                 olis with all Convenient speed

                  Ordered that the Court of Appeals & Writts of Error do

                 Sit to morrow morning

             p. 43    And that Arnold Nodin have his Sloop and Cargo delivered

                 upon his giving Bond to Answer the Value in Case of Con

                 demnation upon the Appeal

                  As to the Negroe Imported in the said Sloop Ordered that

                 it be Referred to the Kings Lawyers to advise whether the

                 said Negroe ought to Come under any appraisment or not

                  Ordered that Commission of the peace issue for St Marys

                 County.
