Nicholas Greenberry & Collo David Brown deceased Appre- Lib. X. hending & Esteeming them Gentlemen not only Qualified but also well affected to his Majestys Interest & Government & free from Espousing any Private Parties against his Majestys Royal Authority & Prerogative the said Gentlemen do severally Return his Excellency their humble & hearty thanks for the good Esteem he has Conceived of them & for the favour & honour they are likely to receive by being so recommd It being Represented that Lieutent Collo Ridgely of Ann Arundel County hath often applyed himself to his Excllcy to be discharged from his Command being aged & infirm & for that Collo Nich Greenberry the former Colonel of the said County is dead it is thought fit upon the honble Thomas Tench Esqr excusing himself in not being Concerned in any Military employ lie being Constituted Judge of his Majestys Court of Vice Admiralty on the Western Shore of this Province & taken up with other Business Captain Hill by reason of his being an Antient Officer be Constituted Colonel, Major Iohn Hammond Lieut Collo & Mr Charles Greenberry the Son of the said Collo Greenberry dec'd Major of the said County & that they Take Care to Regulate the said Militia p. 41 Officers under them pursuant to former Instructions issued therein Mrs Mary Vansweeringen being again sent for Came & was Sworn by Robt Smith Esqr in the presence of his Ex cellency & Council to make true Answer to what Questions should be asked her in Relation to Mr Philip Clark's further talking against the Govt before or after the former Words she had made Oath to Who says that the same night the former Discourse hap pened the said Philip Clark told her that Mr Bladen would be turn'd out from being Clerk of the Assembly by reason of some words spoke by the said Mr Bladen Sewell & Mr Butler which they were said to Complain of to Major Lowe Vizt that half of the People of the Country was Bought & Sold which Words was Reckoned as a very great Grievance however in the Conclusion said that he would be Clerk by Reason they could not tell where to get such another & further that he would get him to be Clerk provided he would Submit himself & be sorry for what he had done or words to that Effect the said Mrs Vansweeringen further saith that as she Came up in Company of Mr Harpam to this Port they met one Captain Iosias Wilson of Calvert County who told them that Some of the Members of the house would have some Papers burnt under the Gallows or words to that Effect whereupon she said to Mr Harpam that was like Clarks dis course at St Marys & being asked what she Imagined to be
