      permitted to be put in for the better Securing the foundation Lib. x.

      —agreed to

        5th That there may by the Govr & Visiters of the School

     

      be some man or men near this Empowered to pay the Money

      at such time as the Necessity of Carrying on the work requires

      it—This proposall is agreed to the money being in his Ex

      cellencys hands

        6thly That he the Said Major Dorsey will Oblige the Pen-

      sylvania Carpenters at their Coming down to agree & Con

      sent to work & perform the said work as Mr Fiedler will

      Contrive & direct or else that they shall desist—this Board

      do say that they do leave it to Major Dorseys own manage

      ment to make what Bargain he thinks fit with his Workmen—

      The said paper is referred to his Majestys Lawyers to advise

      whether the Governor & Trustees of the said Free School

      may safely agree to such prosposalls without Danger of

      Overthrowing the Original Contract

     

     

     

                   March the 18th 1697/8

              The Council again Sate and were

                          Present

        His Exllcy Francis Nicholson Esqr Capt Genl

              the honble Collo George Robotham

                       Tho Tench Esqr

                       Collo Charles Huchins

                       Collo John Addison

        The petition of Jeremiah Burke, Richard Bryers, Adam p.

      Baker, Edward Madam, John Bellard, Robert Davis, John

      Davis, Paul Russel & Howe! Brothers Seamen belonging to

      the Hartwell of London whereof Capt Nicholas Humphries is

      Commander Complaining that they were Shiptat Portsmouth

      for this Countrey & back again and that the said Captain

      Humphrys besides Straitning them in their provisions threatens

      to pay them with a dram of the Bottle & that if it Cost him

      Five hundred pounds they shall not have any Wages at their

      Return & praying Relief therein.

        The said Petition was read & duly Considered & the

      petrs & the said Captain Humphries & their Arguments

      Allegations & proofs on both Sides being fully heard &

      nothing Appearing to Verify or make good their complaint

      in the petition set forth but rather on the Contrary the said

      Captain Humphreis offering at this Board to pay their Wages

      duly on performance of their Duty & affirming that they had

      full Allowance of provisions &Ca
