peace lately concluded between his Sacred Majesty and the Lib. H. D. ifrench King wch were both read. Ordered that pursuant thereto the same be published accordingly by all the Sherriffs of this his Majtes Province & Territory of Maryland, in all Churches, Chappells & other publick places of meeting with in their respective Counties. And that they likewise give pub. lick notice to all Privateers and Commanders of Shipps riding within the limits of this Government to cease hostilities WCh the ifrench Kings Subjects, according to the tenor of the sd Pro clamation; whereunto all persons are to yield due & ready obedience at their utmost perill. His Exncy representing that the weather setting in so very hard that no more of his Majtes honoble Councill could possible be got together, whereby a day of publick Thanksgiving and rejoyceing might have been appointed to be Solemnly kept suitable to the occasion of this most happy & joyfull news of a peace concluded & obtain'd through the puissant Valour & prudent conduct of his most Serene & Sacred Majesty; therefore the same is deferr'd till please God the weather becomes milder and the Rivers and Creeks passable.
The following Order issued to the severalb Sherriffs of the Province. Vizt
By his Exncy the Govern & Councill Xbr 17th 1697. Ordered that (pursuant to the directions of the Rtt Honoble the Lords of the Councill for trade & forreign Plantations sent unto his Exncy bearing date the 27th of Octobr last past) a Pro clamation for publishing the peace lately concluded between his Sacred Majesty and the ifrench King (this day read in councill) be published accordingly by all the Sherriffs of this his Majtes Province & Territory of Maryland, in all Churches, Chappells and other publick places of meeting within their respective Counties; and that they likewise give publick notice to all Privateers and Commanders of Shipps riding within the Limmitts of this Governmt to cease hostillities with the ifrench Kings Subjects, according to the tennor of the said Proclamation; whereunto all persons are to yield due and ready obedience, at their utmost perill.
