     the same would occasion the Sale of the Vessell and over- Lib. H. D.

     throw the Voyage.

      2nd Your Petitioner being wholly a stranger in the Countrey

     cannot possibly give the security the officers require for com

     plying with the laws of the Countrey having apply'd himselfe

     to severall persons that are concern'd with the owners who

     all of them refuse saying they have no such orders, for wch

     said reasons he is advised by all persons tht knows his case

     & that are well wishers to the Owners for to proceed the

     Voyage for which the men are Shipt & are willing to go & to

     desist going to Barbados, he having got a Mate that under

     stands the other Voyage, & is every way qualified except his p. 148

     having a family in England. All wch yor Petitioner humbly

     lays before your Exncy in behalfe of the owners & tht you would

     favourably pleased to give such Order to the Officers for

     his dispatch as to your Exncys wisdom and prudence shall seem

     meet; he being ready and willing to satisfy all manner of dutyes

     fees & other charges by way of goods he having no ready

     money, and his own bills being refused for discharge thereof;

     wch being granted.

                      Your Petitioner shall ever pay &Ca

                                 George Lewis.

    

      And if you find the said Petition to be true, you are to

     take the said George Lewis own bond (in behalf of the

     owners of the said Ship ffly) for performance of the laws of

     the Countrey & dutyes He not designing to load any

     tobacco wch you are to take care that he comply wth, so there

     will be no occasion for his giveing a navigation Bond; And if

     it appear to you that it will be for the owners advantage tht

     he draw Bills upon them to pay the Countrey dutyes fees &ca

     you take the said Bills; And for doing these things this shall

     be your sufficient warrant & authority;

      Given under my hand and Seale the day and year above

     written

     To Peter Jennings Esqr his Majtys fir: Nicholson [Seale]

     Collector of Patuxent district

              and

     To Mr Samll Watkins Navall

     officer of the same.

     New York the 7th 1697.

      Yesterday arrived here a Bark belonging to Road Island

     who brought in a prize wth her wch she took on the Banks of

     Newfound Land the prize is 150 Tunns hath some Salt &

     fish on board, the Master of the aforesaid Barque says tht
