Lib. H. D. not suffer any person to discourse him out of his hearing, and that what he has to say in tht nature he put in Writing by way of Deposition against to Morrow Morning, in Ordr to make Oath to the same. Vpon the sd Information the following Warrant was by Ordr issued; Vizt
By his Exncy the Governr & Councill, Novernr 21th 1697. Whereas by Information of Michaell Iudd of Baltimore County Inn-hoalder it hath been signifyed unto his ExncY in Councill how that John Hanstillman of Caecill County does deale and hold frequent correspondence with three ffrench Indian Traders, alien Enimies to his Majesty and this Govern ment; and by him represented to have been chief Actors in cutting off and destroying severall familyes & a Town in New England. And whereas the said Judd does further give an account of one Thomas Browne and severall other of the Inhabitants of Baltimore County that have lately held frequent correspondence with one Amos Nicholls formerly belonging to Ccecill County; Nothwithstanding his Exncys Proclamation and hue & Cryes for apprehending him upon complaint of several1 notorious Crimes and misdemeanours he the said Nicholls had perpetrated and Committed. These are therefore in his Majtes name to Authorize & Em power, as also will & require Major Iames Maxwell high Sheriff of Baltimore County forthwith upon sight hereof to go wth the sd Iudd over into Caecill County unto the Han stillman; whome he is to have before some Magistrate of the said County in Order to be Examined and such persons Depo sitions taken, as he upon inquiry shall find requisite in that behalfe, and that he use the same method against those persons inform'd against living in Baltimore County. The Justices before whome such Examinations & Depositions are taken being hereby directed to bind over to the Provinciall Court (for prosecution &ca) all such persons as they shall find to have offended in either of the foregoing matters together with the Evidences to prossecute them; and tht the sd Major Maxwell have the severall Examinations & Depositions (so taken as aforesaid) before his Exncy in Councill, at the Port of Annapolis, the first day of Decemr next without faile; for all wch this shall be sufficient warrant, Given from the Councill Board, the day & year above written.
