      Copy of the above Summons was sent to the Honobte Collo Lib. H. D.

    Robotham & Esqr ffrisbey with the following postscript Vizt

      If your Honor pleases to come by Land as farr as Broad

    Creek on Kent Island there will be a Boat ready to wait on

    you on Wednesday the day before; wch his Exncy takes care

    to send from the Ieofferies, & will likewise sett you back

    again to the same place, if yor Honor is minded to come that

    way.

   

   

   

   

      At a Councill held at the Port of Annapolis the 21st day of

    Novemr 1697, in the ninth year of his Majesties Reigne

                         Present

      His Exncy ffrans Nicholson Esqr Capt Genll &ca

             Sr Thomas Laurence Barontt Secry

                   Collo Henry Iowles.

      Came and appeared Major Iames Maxwell high Shrff of

    of Baltimore County & made his returne to a Certain Order

    of this Board of the 19th of October last past in relation to one

    Mr Bartlett a dissenting Minister and says that he

    served the Order upon him, who did promise to come down

    wth him, but hath since conveyed himselfe privately away and

    is not to be found. W Thomas Staley the Cheif Vestryman

    of St Johns Parish in that County being brought & examined

    does say that the said Bartlett is not allowed any thing out of

    the 40 p poll and tht he once shutt the Church doores agt him,

    for wch he recd a great deale of ill will from the Parishoners.

    Upon wch his Exncy is pleased to say that the sd Bartlett not

    being in Ordrs he is not to be suffered to Preach in any Church

    but if he has a mind to sett up a private Congregation, he

    may do it; Provided he first have leave from the Government p. 604

    & not otherwise. But if found Acting contrary, the Major

    Maxwell is ordered to take him into custody and bring him

    before his Exncy to answer &ca

      Michaell Iudd of Baltimore County appearing, pursuant to

    a former Ordr of his Exncy to the Sherriff of that County to

    see what he had to say about Amos Nicholls, who giving an

    account of one Thomas Browne and severall persons of the

    sd County that have had dealings wth the said Nicholls within

    this halfe year and concerning John Hanstillmans holding

    frequent correspondence wth three French Indian Traders,

    persons represented to have been chief Actors in cutting off

    & destroying severall families and a Town in New England

    The sd Sherriff is Ordered to take the sd Iudd into Custody &
