                  302 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.

          

           Lib. H. D.     & a Copy of the former Order be transmitted to the Governr

                 of Maryland by the Gentlemen sent by himself and Councill

                 and Ordered accordingly.

                   His Exncy is pleased to demand of the Board what they

                 think is best to be done in this case. Who after some con

                 sultation therein had, do think it to be a matter of such con

                 sequence as will require the advice of as many of his Majtes

                 Honoble Councill as can conveniently be got together. Or

                 dered therefore that summons issue to give notice to the

                 Honoble Coll° Geo: Robotham, Coll0 Nicholas Greenberry Collo

                 John Courts, Thomas Brooks Esqr and James ffrisby Esqr to

                 meet his Exncy in Council at the Port of Annapolis; on Thurs

                 day next come sennight to consult the said affair. It being

                 not thought convenient that Coll Addison should be sent for

                 by reason of the Service he performes upon the ffrontiers of

                 Potomock, nor Collo Hutchins being at too great distance.

             p. 603 His EXnCY is pleased to aske Esqr Tench what thoughts the

                 people of Stafford County have concerning the Piscattoway

                 Indians; who says that they seem to be uneasy and fearfull

                 that the said Indians have no good designes, but do wish they

                 were rid of them.

                   Ordered that Copy of Esqr Tench & Major Dents Letter to

                 his Exncy of the 16th instant produced and read in Councill

                 this day in relation to the Indian Esqr Tom and five Susque

                 hannos be sent to Major John Thompson of C2ecill County

                 for him to make inquiry if any such Indians are in those

                 parts, and that he returne answer to this Board accordingly

                 with all convenient speed.

                   The following Summons pursuant to Order issued Vizt

          

          

                                 Port of Annapolis Novemr 16th 1697

                               Honoble Sr

                          This day his Honor Esqr Tench came to Towne

                 and presented a Iournall of his & Major Dents negotiation in

                 Virginia about the Indian affair, together with the result of

                 hi3 Exncy Sr Edmund Andros and Councill upon the matters

                 proposed to them, wch have been here read in Councill &

                 Judged to be such as do require the speedy meeting of more

                 of his Majtes Honoble Councill to consult the same; You are

                 therefore required (on this occasion) to meet his Exncy accord

                 ingly at this place, on Thursday next come sennight, wch will

                 be the 2nd day of Decemr pursuant to Order for the same this

                 day passed.
