                 258 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.

           Lib. H. D.          October the 23d 1697.

          

                   Ordered that the Collectors within this his Majesties Prov

                 ince of Maryland do upon Entring any Shipps comeing from

                 Europe, enquire of the Masters if any of the Goods imported

                 be designed for Pensilvania to be transported over land, and

                 (if any such) that they give the party or parties an Authentick

                 Copy of the Coquets of such Goods to be signed by the Col

                 lectr and Navall Officer in Ordr to their carrying the Same

                 to Major John Thompson Navall Officer of Caecill County,

                 who is hereby appointed to Collect the duty of Tenn p Cent

                 thereon accruing according to Law.

          

          

                         Octobr the 24th 1697.

                   Ordered that the Respective Collectors and Navall Officers

                 within the Province take care forthwith to procure Copyes of

                 the severall Acts & Ordinances of Assembly of this Province

                 concerning Trade & Navigation, to be kept in their offices,

                 in Order to shew the same to all Masters and Merchants of

                 Shipps at their entry &Ca pursuant to former Order and that

                 they also procure Copyes of all Proclamations and Orders of

                 Councill anywaies relating to trade as aforesaid, to the end &

                 purpose aforesaid.

          

          

                         October the 25th 1697.

                   Came George Layfield Esqr late Collector of Pocomoke

                 district & made Oath upon the holy Evangelist to two lists of

                 Shipping & an Accot of the full ballance of the penny p

                 pound by him Collected, due to this day, amounting to the

                 Sum of 3840 ls of tobbo wch makes sixteen pounds Sterling for

                 which he then passed note to his Exncy

          

              p.     582 An account of the 1s 6d hhd Exhibitted by Mr Ino West

                 Navall Officer of Pocomoke district, Mr ffrancis Jenckins (in

                 behalfe of Major Robert King late Navall Officer of the said

                 district decd) and George Plater Esqr his Majestes Receiver of

                 Patuxent district; all accounted for in October Anno 1697.
