October the 20th 1697. Came Mr Willm Bladen Depty Collectr of the Port of Ann apolis and Mr Willm Aildern Depty Collectr of the Port of Wiliiamstadt and had the Oaths appointed by Act of Parlia ment to be taken instead of the Oaths of Allegiance & Supremacie severally administered to them in Councill; as also the Oath of trade & Navigation & subscribed to the Test, in presence of Peter Jenings Esqr his Majtes Collectr of Patux ent district, from whom they recd their Deputations. The sd Mr Alldern makes Oath to an Accot of the penny p pound collected within the sd Port, during his officiating under George Plater Esqr former Collector of that district. George Plator Esqr his Majtes Attorney Genrll and Receiver p. 581 for Patuxent district being sent for & asked about Judgments obtain'd for his Majty upon forfeited Navigation Bonds— whether (if the same were put in execution) it would be a means to advance any considerable sum of money to his Majesty—who sayes, that he does believe, that, if the strictest methods imaginable should be used, it would not advance his MajtY 500 pounds Steril ready money.
October the 21th 1697. George Muschamp Esqr his Majtes Receiver of Potomock & Pocomoke districts, being sent for, is asked whether or no he thinks that if in case Executions had issued upon those Judg ments obtain'd for his Majesty upon the severall forfeited Navigation Bonds within this Province, it would have raised his Majesty 500 l Sterli ready money, who does say he believes not, for that he sees the Countrey is necessitous rather then otherwise. Ordered that the same questions be putt to the Justices of the Provinciall Court for their Opinion to be given therein the wch being accordingly drawn forth in writing and laid before them. Came back indorsed as follows Vizt In obedience to y& EXnCYS Ordr within We the Justices of his Majesties Pro vinciall Court are of the same Opinion of the Gentlemen within mention'd.
