256 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.
Lib. H. D. upon European Goods transported to Pensilvania over Land, and of all Goods brought from thence that way; wch business he is solely to mind. Ordered that Henry Denton Clerk of his Majesties Honoble Councill, do receive from the severall Collectrs & Navall Officers the severall Bonds, Certificates & Cocquetts to be lodged in his Office, at the State house and that he sort all the said Bonds & Certificates and put up the Certificate of discharge in the Bond and such Bond as has Certificate he is to endorse it that a Certificate is filed with him in discharge thereof and so subscribe his name. That every Collr and Navall Officers papers be filed by themselves & sorted by the years, and that from hence for ward they do every eighteen months (Pursuant to the Act of Parliament of the third of King William, intituled an Act for preventing frauds and Regulating abuses in the Plantation Trade) returne all Navigation Bonds, Certificates & Cocquetts, as also a General List of Shipping together wth a Catalogue of the sdl Certificates &ca and deliver them up before his Exncy and Councill upon Oath. That the said Henry Denton have setledupon him a proper ffee for every search or Certificate he shall give out. That a good strong Chest Wth a Lock & key be gott to putt the sd papers in.
October the 22nd 1697. ffees setled by his Exncy the Governr & Councill upon Henry Denton, Officer appointed for keeping all Navigation Bonds, Certificates & Cocquets &ca Vizt ffor every year back ward except the first year 6d or 6 pounds of tobbo for Coppy of any matter Certified from under the hand of the sd Denton 8d or 8 pds of tobbo p Side. Came Mr ffrancis Ienckins, ffather in law to Major Robt King late Navall Officer of Pocomoke district decd and made Oath upon the Holy Evangelist that he has deliver'd up all Books, Bonds, Certificates & other Navall papers that were in the possession of the sd Major King, at the time of his death, which he knows off anywaies materiall and does promise and engage that if any comes to his hands afterwards, he will deliver the same up to Mr John West present Navall officer there. Came George Layfield Esqr late . of his Majtes Customs wthin the district of Pocomoke and made Oath upon the Holy Evangelist that he hath delivered up unfo David Kennedy Esqr the present Collectr there, all Bonds, Certifi cates, Cocquetts & other papers Relating to tht Office that he
