nish them to be allowed for the same out of the Publick, The Lib. H. D. wch he sayes he is willing to undertake as also the other pro posal for vissiting the Garrison &ca Ordered that no person upon any pretence whatsoever do presume to sell any Syder or other strong liquor to any of the men at the Garrison or the other persons appointed to Range at the Eastern branch without the especial leave of the Honoble Coll John: Addison. Coll Addison & Mr Hutchins, owners of the land where the Garrison is kept being asked whether the Rangers may have leave to plant Corn in any of those Indian fields & Clear the hill there neer the ffort. Do make Answer that they may ffreely do the same wthout any disturbance. Ordered that a ffort be built upon the top of the sd Hill near the other ffort and tht the said Hill be cleared by the Souldiers at the Garrison; and that the Honoble Coll Ino Addison take care to gett a house built there, at the cheapest rate he can; but that he do not actually build the same till he see whether the Indians return thither or not; yet however that he gett the timber ready for the Stockadoes and see tht the hill be cleared; and tht he purchase a couple of small Gunns (which are in the possession of Capt George Harris) at the cheapest rate he can, also provide two or three good Canooes, besides a good sub stantial boat, reported by the Comittee to be necessary to be gott; for all wch he is to be paid out of the Publick leavy of this Province. That if in case the Indians do not returne in the spring of the year, according to their promise; or that in case a Warr should sooner break out; It is agreed & left to the discretion of his Exncy the Governr to encourage the Souldiers raised for that service, wth such a Reward for taking an Indian Prisoner or bringing in an Indians head, as his Exncy shall think fitt. The Gentlemen called upon the foregoing consultation being discharged and dismissed. His Exncy together wth his Majtyes Honoble Councill do repair to the Councill Chamber, where the severall matters and things in relation to the Indians & raising men &ca being again weighed & considered the following Order thereon issued Vizt Ordered that (pursuant to advice of the Honord the Justices and Grand Jury of the Provincial Court, together wth the other Gentlemen called to be consulted about Indian affairs) a former Order about laying out the Land for the Choptanck Indians be renewed and complyed wth, wch (through sickness of Major Smithson, the Surveyor) is represented not yet to be done, hereby appointing Major Thomas Ennalls of Dorchester County to Runn the said Land out & returne Certificate thereof accordingly unto this Board with all convenient speed.
