Lib. H. D. plyed with; who are Order'd to make inspection thereinto & represent the same to his Exncy and Councill accordingly. About the Nanticoke Indians. His Exncy is pleased to aske his Honor Coll Hutchins, whether or no he can inform any thing concerning the sd Indian being troublesome or anywaies disorderly, who says he is afraid they have some ill Intentions for that there are severall strange Indians amongst them more then used to be, and that their behaviour seems to be more sturdy than formerly & do forbear comeing among the inhabitants. Ordered that according to a proposall this day agreed Lu, the severall persons appointed by Act of Assembly for deciding diflerence betwixt the English & Indians go once or twice a week & visit the said Indians & Inquire what strange Indians are among them, and in what posture they are, who are to be paid out of the Publick for their trouble therein; it being thought for his Majesties Service. And if anything extraordinary happens; that they imediately send his Exncy notice and give the Militia Officers an account thereof that they may prepare themselves in a readiness. Vpon Representation, Ordered that the Comissrs of the respective County Courts and the Persons appointed for deciding differences betwixt the English & Indians take special care (during these disturbances & Commotions) to see the severall acts of Assembly of this Province, concerning selling Syder to the Indians and divulging false news be putt in strict execution & duly observed. His is pleased to putt the question & know the opinion of the severall Gentlemen present, how & out of what Counties the fifteen men shall be raised that are to strengthen the Garrison and ifrontiers at Potomock. Whereupon it is agreed that the Same be raised proportionably out of Ann Arrundell, Calvert, St Maries, and Charles Counties, the Colonells whereof are to take care to impress them, but if Volunteers can be afterwards procured that then they be taken. That Richard Owen of Ann Arrundell County be Capt over the sd Men and Gyles Hill of St Maries County the Leiu tenant. Recommended tht the Honoble Coll Ino Addison who lives convenient to the head of Potomock and has been already very serviceable in those parts, be appointed and have power to go & Vissit the Garrison & said men once a fortnight, for wch he may be satisfyed out of the publick: p. 573 That if the said men cannot find themselves wth necessary Provisions so that they need not quitt their posts in looking after it; it is proposed to CoIl Addison whether he will fur-
