lustices and Grand Iury of the Provinciall Court, the Corn- Lib. H. D. mittee for laying the Publick leavy and the Gentlemen that p. 570 went upon the Indian treaty, being called to their assistance; where after having deliberately & maturely weighed and considered the severall matters relating to that concern; they (among other things) agree and resolve upon the following heads of discourse to be offer'd and laid before his Exncy Sr Edmund Andros His Majtes Goverr of Virginia Vizt 1st That they think it to be necessary for his Majtes service and safety of his Countrey that his Exncy Sr Edmund Andros his Majtes Governr of Virginia be sent to and acquainted with the Circumstances of the last Murther and other mattres relating to the Indian affairs; And forasmuch as the said late murther hath been committed by Indians (unknown to us) That his said Exncy be desired to cause inquiry to be made after the sd Murtherers as it hath lately been done in this Government for the seizing and apprehending an Indian called Esqr Torn, that fledd to this Province from the hands of Iustice in Virginia. 2ndly That whereas it is reported the Indians are possessed wth ill notions tht for any misdemeanors comitted here they are not to be punisht for the same in Virginia Therefore do desire that his Exncy the Governr of Virgina will be pleased to make them sensible to the contrary. 3dIy That his said Exncy be likewise desired to prohibit the Inhabitants under his Government from selling to the said Indians any more powder or ball, and the like shall be done here; they having carryed away with thm out of this Govern ment, & purchased since, a considerable quantity of both, by their own saying. That by information the said Indians formerly have not made use ofi & purchased a thousand weight of powder a year. 4thly That his Exncy the Governr of Virginia be likewise desired to appoint and send some Gentlemen to meet in Stafford County or elsewhere and call the Piscattoway Indians before them, in Ordr to discourse them in presence of some persons to be sent out of Maryland as well to inform the Indians the resolution of that Government not to protect them, as also for the Gentlemen of Maryland to make pro posalls to thm 5thly That the Governr of Virginia be desired to send some persons up to the Piscattoway ffort in Virginia to see whether they have any strange Indians among them, and what num ber there may be off them, & whether they have dispersed themselves about a hunting, according to their usuall cus tome; being apprehensive tht the said Indians living so remote
