D. from the Inhabitants may have ffrench Jesuits or Priests or other French men among them. 6thly That if his sd Exncy the Governr does consent to send some Gentlemen to meet in Stafford County or elsewhere to discourse the Piscattoway Indians, that then the Honoble Coll John Courts, Capt Phillip Hoskins and Mr Willm Hatton or the Major part of them go thither & be joyn'd to the Honoble Thorns Tench Esqr and Major Willm Dent, wch two last men tion'd Gentlemen are the persons appointed to go with those Instructions to his Exncy the Governr of Virginia. 7thly It is agreed that the Gentlemen that go to Virginia acquaint the Indians at their meeting with them, that there being a Murther coinitted in Maryland, and taking them to be our friends, they may be desired (if possible) to find out the murtherers, for wch they shall have a reward of fifty Match coats, if they detect & bring in the said Murtherers. That they also be acquainted to make haste to returne for Maryland and that if they should be wanting of Come, this Province will furnish them for their pay, and that they may reset!e Piscattoway or Rock Creek wch they think fitt. p. 571 That the best way to convince this Government tht they are not the persons tht did the said Murther, will be by their speedy returne, and that they be told they may fully depend to have every thing was promised them comply'd with. 8thly That if his Exncy Sr Edmund Andros do not consent to send some Gentlemen as is requested that then the Mes sengers returne without any further proceeding. 9thly That his said Exncy be desired to settle the Rangers somewhere convenient towards the head of Potomock, and that he would be pleased to give instructions to the Comander in Chief of Stafford County and to his Rangers to hold a frequent correspondence wth the Honoble Coll Ino Addison and the Rangers on this side, They having already Instructions to do the like from hence thither. 10th That his sd Exncy be desired that the Rangers may agree upon the Alarm, and that they may not keep hollowing & fireing of Gunns in the night. Lastly it is thought convenient that the Gentlemen appointed to go to his Exncy Sr Edmund Andros in Virginia be generally left at liberty to discourse any other matters to his sd Exncy or Indians as they shall Iudge requisite for his Majtes service and good of this Countrey.
