D. ended the 11th of June after) Empowering me Francis Nicho! son Esqr Capt Genll and Governr in chief of his Majtes Prov ince of Maryland for drawing any notes upon the Treasurers of this his Majties Province for payment of all such sum or summs of money as should be remaining due to the Estate of Coll Casparus Herman Decd for finishing the State house worke within the Port & Town of Annapolis &Ca You are (upon sight hereof) to pay unto Mr Jacob Vangazell, Attorney of Mrs Herman Exx of the sd Coll Herman decd The Sum of fifty two pounds, one shilling sterling bailance of accounts this day made up; for wch take his receipt & a good & Sufficient discharge (in behalfe of the Countrey) as full Satisfaction made to the Estate of the said Coll Herman for finishing the sd State house and all manner of Surplussage Worke whatsoever done in or about the same; for wch this shall be sufficient warrant. Given under my hand at the Port of Annapolis this 16th day of Octobr in the ninth year of the Reign of our Soveraign Lord King William the Third &ca Annoq Domini 1697. To Major Thomas Smithson ffr: Nicholson Treasurer of the Eastern Shore The sd Warrant was deliv These. ered to Major Dorsey by him to be kept till the sd Mr Vangazell give security for painting the State house.
Memorandm there was stopt out of the money due to Coll. p. Hermans Estate the sum of five pounds Sterll till the painting worke be done about the Statehouse, wch the sd Mr Vangazell has engaged shall be done by the last of May next, or that he will give notice the beginning of March before, if he cannot do it. The Committees Returne about the State house is approved off and Major Hammond and Major Dorsey appointed Overseers of what worke is still to be done about the said house, mentioned in the said Returne, wch lyes Reg istered among the Records of the Provinciall Office.
Munday Morning Octobr the 18th 1697. The Councill again sate and were present as before Ordered that the Sherriff of Dorchester County do upon sight hereof summons Christopher Nutter that all excuses sett a part he be & personally appear before his Exncy the Governr at the Port of Annapolis the last Tuesday in ffebry next to answer to such questions as on his Majtes behalfe shall then & there be demanded off him.
