                236 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.

         

          Lib. H. D.     Honoble Councill The Honoble Collo Charles Hutchins came

                and was added. It being late in the night and some other

                business interfering; The return of the Committee about

                Indian affairs is referred till munday morning to be read.

                  His Exncy and his Majties Honoble Councill being again

                repair'd to the Statehouse where the Gentlemen yesterday

                present were also mett.

                  The Comittees returne for inspecting and veiwing the

                Statehouse was produced and read.

                  Mr Iacob Vangazell being by Ordr sent for appears. He is

                told the Doore locks are very badd; who says he will allow

                for them.

             p. He is asked if he is legally qualified to receive the money

                due for the overplus worke of the Statehouse in behalf of

                Maddam Herman Execux of Coll Herman Decd The under

                taker; Who sayes he has a Letter of Attorney from her which

                was produced & read publickly; but the same did not appear

                to be proved; however is deem'd sufficient enough.

                  ‘I'he said Mr Vangazell is told that care is taken, to lodge

                the money with Major Hammond & Major Dorsey, who are

                ordered to pay it as soone as the House is compleatly

                finished.

                  He is asked if he has any further charge to bring in then

                what is contain'd in the sd Comittees returne, now read, who

                sayes he has nothing to charge, unless it be for his own

                trouble & care in seeing the overplus worke done.

                  Vpon complaint made by the said Committee, what money

                is coming due to the aforenamed Mrs Herman EXX &ca

                ffor the overpluss worke at the Statehouse. Do find tht for

                the same Remains due to the sd Mrs Herman the sum of fifty

                two pounds one shilling Sterll being full satisfaction for all

                dues & demands whatsoever that can be claim'd by the sd

                Execux or by Mr Jacob Vangazell in and about the building

                and finishing the said State house.

                  Ordered that his Exncy the Governr be desired (pursuant to

                a late Ordinance of Assembly) to give his Warrant to Major

                Thomas Smithson Treasurer of the Eastern Shore for payment

                of the sd Sum unto Mr Iacob Vangazell Attorney of the sd

                Mrs Herman, and that the said Treasurer take a Sufficient

                receipt A discharge for all accounts wtsoever upon the Score

                of building the said State house & the Overplus worke of the

                same.

                  The said Warrant was drawn accordingly & signed and

                Sealed by his EXnCY as followes Vizt
