Major Wm Dent, persons appointed upon the Comittee Lib. H. D. besides; being all Ordered to meet at Mr John ffreemans house this night by Seaven of the Clock. And that the Clerk of the Councill & Mr Willm Bladen attend them with the Councill Booke and all other papers necessary, and that one of the Vndersherriffs attend at the Doore. His EXnCY is pleased to demand of the Gentlemen of the Councill (being now withdrawn from the State house) whether they can advise anything further (for his Majesties service) to be done in this affair about the Indians; who say they cannot. Severall persons being appointed to meet his Exncy and Councill this day at the State house, to consult about Indian Affairs &ca among other things it was taken into considera tion, and Ordered that a Committee be appointed to view the Statehouse worke &ca 1st To see whether the Statehouse be performed according to Articles & what is done over & above the agreement. 2ndly That the worke be done about the Cupilo and Ga! leries be viewed and valued. To consider the having a small raile round the Kings Picture to keep the People off. 4thly That they view the window frames of the Church and the foundation &ca whether the sd foundation be well secured this Winter, and to view the fframe of the Gatehouse now ready to be sett up. The Honoble Coll Henry Jowles and Thomas Brook Esqr are appointed to joyne with the said Comittee with some of the Justices & Grand Jury of the Provinciall Court—and Ordered accordingly—And that Mr Henry Wriothesley attend them as Clerk to draw up their Returne in writing. And that an Vnder Sherriff attend them at Mr John: ffreemans house (the place appointed for their meeting) to summons any workemen or other persons they think fltt to call before them.
Octobr the 16th 1697. The Councill againe sate and were present as before except Sr Thomas Laurence. His Exncy being acquainted that the Committee appointed to consult about Indian affairs had broke up their Committee. Order is thereon given to the Sherriff to Summons all the Iustices & Grand lury of the Provinciall Court together with the other persons that yesterday mett his Exncy in Councill about the said affair, for to meet again at the Statehouse forthwith, who accordingly mett together, except Sr Thomas Laurence and Coll Nicholas Greenberry, two of his Majties
