Dies Veneris Iune the 30th 1699.

The house mett againe and were Called over & the Dele-
gates Yesterday prsent appeared & Mr Iames Sander Majr Tho:
Ennalls Mr Tho: Hicks Mr Walter Campbell and Doctr Iacob
Loockerman appeared in the house
Mr Speaker brings into the house the answer to his Excys
Speech wch was ordrd by him to be prepared wch was read (viz)

By the house of Delegates Iune 30th 1699:

May it Please yor Excy
2: Wee Humbley thank your Excy for yor Ingenuous Speech
& Declaration of your mind to us whereof you were pleased
to lett us have a Coppy & wee assure yor Excy that the Certaine
Carecter wee have heard of yor Excys Iust and Prudent Gov-
ernmt & Candid Treating of his Majtys Subjects in other parts
of America gives us full assurance that yor Excy will practice
the same to us wthout any apprehenssion of the Contrary &
that yor Excy will Cast upon us the True reflection of his Majtys
Serene & Gracious asspect & you shall surely find his Majtyes
Subjects here of an Ingenious humble obedient & Loyall dis-
position and as sincerely Endeavouring that nothing shall
disconsonant the good Harmony you wish to find as Law and
Duty can oblidge a well satisfyed people too. The many Bene-
fitts this province has received by being taken into his Majtyes
immediate protection wee Gratefully acknowledge and admire
the Greatness of his mind that his more Vast and Important
affaires in Europe are so Easy to him that he Can Condescend
to soe pticular Consideration of this his Province wee are Glad
to find our Selfs so much in his Care and Confess it a great
blessing to be vnder his Governmt wch pray god Long to
preserve.
That notion of his Majtyes & Countreys Interest differing
& Interfereing so prejudiciall & fatall to Concord & Unity is
never imbibed by us they doe not understand us that informed
you and allthough yor Excy serveing his Majtye in a higher
Station than any of us may render your Loyalty more per-
spicious yet wee will Contend that ours shall be vn forme &
proportionable and as we never had any apprehension that
his Majty wold retrench us of any of those rights & priviledges
here wch we have in England soe will wee allwayes Esteeme
his Royall prorogative sacred and hope wee shall never see it
misapplyed to personall Strife & Contests nor to Iustifye any
violent action.
