The following Message sent from the house by Mr Iames
Saunders and Mr Thomas Staley Vizt

By the house of Delegates Iuly the 2 2d 1699

The Message by the honble Thomas Tench and Thomas
Brooks Esqrs in Answer to our Message by Mr Symon Will-
mer and others has been read and Considered and the Pro-
posalls
Ist Resolved That the money proposed to his Excy shall be
Imediately paid out of the Treasury one hundred pounds
Sterl out of the hands of the Treasurer on the Eastern Shoar
and one hundred and fifty pounds Sterl out of the hands of
the Treasurer on the Western Shoar
2dly That to the Second proposall we humbly Offer that
by the Act for Regulateing the Militia of this province &

power is Given to the Governor to Raise fifty Thousand
pounds of Tobbacco for defraying any Emergent Occasion
which should happen and further by an Act made this
prsent sessions Entituled an Act for secureing the ffrontiers
&c Authority is Given to the Comittee therein Appointed to
advise of and Concert such measures as will Suppress any
Violence which may be offered to this province after the
breaking up of this prsent Sessions which two Acts are
thought Sufficient to Supply what is proposed
And we humbly Conceive that if the publick Leavy be so
defrayed out of the publick stock nothing would Conduce
more to the honor of his Excy and this Generall Assembly &
the great Satisfaction to the province in Generall it being a
matter never before done in this province

The following answer sent to the house Vizt

By his Excy the Govr & Councill in Assembly
Iuly 22d 1699

In answer to last Message by Mr Saunders and Mr Staley
this Board say that if you will Ordaine and declare on the
Iournall that if the said Comittee with the Governor and
Councill see it necessary to disburse any money in Defence of
the province they may have power to draw the same out of
the publick Treasury and that the Treasurer shall answer the
Same if in their hands (the Act being not so Clear in that
Point) this Board do Assent
