Assembly Proceedings, Oct. 20-Nov. 12, 1698. 255

Mr Wm Bladen Clk: of his Majtys honble Councill bring into
the house Severall bills that were sent to his Excy and Coun-
cill and sayes will pass.
The Comittee of Laws presents the Severall bills referred
to them for amendmts and what other bills lay before them
which was read.
A Bill for the more Effectuall suppressing of curseing and
Swearing comitted for amendmt was read.
A Bill appointing how publick officers shall recover their
dues accrueing by their offices read the 2d time.
A Bill for Conveying of Lrs &c Comitted for amendment
was read
A Bill for regulating Marriages and granting Marriage
Licences, being read the second time.
This house does conceive that when Doct: Bray arrives in
Quality of a Suffragan Bishop the right of Marriage License
will properly belong to him.
A Bill for advancemt of learning and promocon of his Matys
ffree Schools of Maryland, being read the second time it is
remarked.
1. That it would be necessary that a clause be Incerted to
save the Clayme of the Lawfull heirs of Iohn Perry.
2. That the papr mentioned in the said act and said to be
annexed did not appear before the house.

3. That although this house have made a Salvo for the
heirs of Iohn Perry they are not willing or consenting to do
the same to the heirs of Anthony Workman.
4. That in the blanke left for time your Excy will put in so
long time as to your Excy shall seem convenient.
Ordered that Major Thomas Smith, Mr Iohn Hall, Col: Iohn
Thompson Major Ennalls, Majr Barton and Mr Tilghman carry
the said Bills to his Excys and Councill.
The house adjournes till tomorrow Morning Eight of Clock.

Dies Iovis Novr the Tenth 1698.

The house mett againe and were called over, Absent Mr
Philip Clarke, Mr Iames Crauford, Capt Philip Hoskins, Mr
Benja Hall Mr Geo: Ashman Mr Iohn Ferry and Mr Edward
Lloyd.
The honble Collo Iohn Addison and Thomas Brookes Esqr
enter the house and returne the bills last night sent and the
Iournall of the Comittee of acco assented to by his Excy and
Councill.
A Bill Impowering Mr Wm Coursey and Eliza his wife &c:
read the third time and passed for engrossing.
A Bill for preventing Sherrifes from sumoning Delegates
