of the Council of Maryland, 1778-1779. 473

amount to about 5000 Barrls the Quantity ordered for the Army.
We have received by this Post, a Letter from Mr Morris
desiring a different Disposition of the other 5000 Barrls of the
State Purchase, but from a Conversation with Mr Veazey we
are apprehensive that the Flour purchased by Mr Dallam &
that purchased by Colo Henry, is removing for Philada which,
if so, will disable us from furnishing the 5000 Barrls agreeable
to the last Letter; and from your Letter of the 2 Ist June to Mr
Veazey, it seems to have been from Orders you have received,
independent of us, or from your mistaking ours. What of
Colo Henry's Flour lies much more convenient to Delaware
than this Bay ought to go, but we cannot apply of our Purchase,
more than 5000 Barrls for the Commys including all that has
been sent before and since our Letter of the 11th of June, of
the State Purchase, and we wish you to send us an Account of
as soon as may be. If any remains beyond that Quantity, we
wish it to be sent to Baltimore to Mr Wm Smith with an
Invoice.
We are &ca
Colo Henry Hollingsworth.

[Council to Col. W. Henry.]

In Council Annapolis 16th July 1779
Sir.
We have sent you by Mr John Ward Veazey, the £12000
you wrote for. We have for some Time past refused to let any
Body go into New York, nor see any Propriety in changeing
a Resolution which we rather wish was general in every State.
We had ordered about 5000 Barrls of the Flour purchased by
the State, to Philada the Rest, by a Letter recd to Day from the
Honble Govr Morris Esqr is to be sent to Balto to Mr Wm Smith
We wish you, Mr J. W. Veazey, & Colo H. Hollingsworth
would meet together & agree on the most convenient to be
sent to Philada to make up the 5000 Barrls; the Rest of your
Purchase, we request you to forward to Mr Smith with proper
Invoices. The Bran, Shorts & Ship Stuff we would have
delivered to Colo Hollingsworth. Pray wind up this Business
as soon as you possibly can and close & settle your Account,
as we may be able to render the Congress a General Account.
Expedition is the more necessary, as the State is like to be
considerably in Advance, 'til the general Acct can be rendered.
We are &ca
Colo Wm Henry.

C. C.
