444 Journal and Correspondence

C. C.

Vessel are designed for Carolina and Men are now waiting in
Virginia for them & the Accoutriments and if Tregoe's Vessel
is not safe to carry them, we request you immediately to hire
a Vessel, if it can be done on reasonable Terms, to carry
them to Potowmack Creek; if Vessels cannot be hired on
reasonable terms, we request you'll have them pressed.
Tregoe ought to go with the Arms &ca and see that they are
all delivered, he having given a Receipt for them; he lay
here some Time & never intimated any Thing of his Vessel's
being at all out of Order, probably he may have been
negligent in not pumping her. You will render the Public a
most acceptable Service in pushing these Things away, for
the Men will not march til they get them. We have no
Vessel that we can send, or we would save you this Trouble.
We are &ca
Henry Hooper Esqr
Lt of Dorchester County

p. 6

[Council to S. Purviance.]

In Council Annapolis 5th June 1779
Sir.
The enclosed Letter to Majr Smith requests him to furnish
the Matrosses desired for the Conqueror. We suppose they
will not willingly go on this Service, without the same Allow-
ance they had before. The Situation of Things would not
allow us to do any work on the Chester during the Alarm,
she is therefore in but indifferent Order. We shall be obliged
to you to send us down three Caulkers to assist us in putting
the Chester in Order, as she may be fit for occasional Use.
The Chester will be ready as soon as may be, but it will not
be so soon as we expect the Conqueror down. Send us down
the Stores for the Chester agreeable to our Letter of 20th May.
We are &ca
Mr Saml Purviance

[Council to I. Perkins.]

In Council Annapolis 5th June 1779
Sir.
Please to send by Mr Steward in the Plater, what Bread you
have purchased for us, if you have any of your own, we are
willing to take it and give you a just Price for it. It will suit
as well in Bulk or better than in Barrels.
We are &ca
Colo Isaac Perkins.
