therefore you did not get it. We sent you the 12th of last
Month by Mr Hughes 1 C Wt which we suppose you got.
Tomorrow or the next Day we will send to Cambridge to the
Care of Mr Stevens 3 C wt Lead, we cannot send it before.
We have wrote to Mr McBryde to keep back, a little while, the
Flour he purchased & subjected it for the use of the Militia,
if called out; Colo Joseph Dashiell has 2 Barrls of our Pork &
Mr Chaille about the same Quantity, that must be used if con-
venient & wanted or and that belongs to the Public, more con-
venient. We can say nothing further as to the Removal of
the Continental Provisions, which may be in Places tolerably
safe, than that we do not approve it, as Things are now cir-
cumstanced and advise it not to be done. We cannot Spare
one of our Boats at present, if you can hire a proper one and
get her manned & armed, we are willing to pay the Expence
of it, for the little Time she may be necessary and useful. We
send you the Commissions you wrote for; if the People will
lend or use their Arms, we agree they shall be paid for in
Case of Loss, but special Care ought to be taken to fix the
Loss on those who use them, unless it is unavoidable

[Council to R. Dallam.]

In Council Annapolis 27th May 1779
Sir
You will receive by your Brother Francis Dallam forty
thousand Pounds. If you do not draw the Money from the
Commissary's Department for the 1700 Barrls which you
purchased before you received your Appointment from this
Board and which Govr Morris Esqr has agreed shall be
reckoned in the Quantity to be supplied by this State, a
further Sum shall, on Notice, be sent to enable you to satisfy
your Engagements. We have this Day wrote to Genl Buc-
hanan either to discharge or keep the Militia together as he
shall find them in Temper. If the first is done, signals must
be agreed on, that Notice may be extended immediately, so
that all under Orders to hold themselves in Readiness, may
proceed without Delay, to Baltimore. The Flour you have
purchased must remain in the Places mentioned in your List,
until you receive further Directions from us. It will be
required from the 9 Months Men to make separate Deposi-
tions, with respect to the Cloathing they have received from
the State and, if they insist on the Cloathing they must
receive it here, as we have none any where else; if they will
