In Council Annapolis 27th May 1779
Sir.
Our Stock of Arms is very small and of Accoutriments
much smaller. If the enemy come up, this Place & Baltimore
will certainly be principal Objects and as Balto may better be
defended than this Place, we have sent chief of what we had
thither. We are not able to furnish you with either of the
Articles you want. If the Militia should be called out, use the
Pork in your & Mr Chaille's Hands, in that Event, any Flour
& Bread which is convenient must be used & paid for. We
have sent you the Money on your Order, but have not drawn
any sum to deposite in the Counties, if we do for any, we
must for all on the Eastern Shore we should not be justified
unless the Occasion was more pressing. We send you the
Commissions you wrote for. If the Eastern Shore of Virginia
should call on you for Assistance, we would by all Means have
you give it, as far as your Circumstances will allow, but we are
afraid you can afford but little
