Monday 8th March 1779.

Present as on Saturday except T. S. Lee Esqr Danl Carroll
Esqr Attended.
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to William
Bruff seventeen Pounds for the use of William Smyth and the
further sum of One Pound two shillings and six Pence for the
Use of Thomas Kersey per Accounts passed by the Depy Audr
That the said Treasurer pay to Capt. James Belt Twenty
three Pounds Ninteen shillings & six Pence p Acct passed by
the Aud. Gl
That the said Treasurer pay to William Hyde Sixty two
Pounds ten shillings due him for 2 Mo Salary as Assistant
Cl. the 5 Inst.
That the said Treasurer pay to Commo Thomas Grason,
Twenty seven Pounds, seven shillings & four Pence for the
Use of Daniel Friend pr Account passed by the Aud. Genl
John Woodfield a Private in Capt. Campbell's Comy of Ma-
trosses who obtained a Furlough some time ago, to go into
the Country to endeavor to recover his Health and Appearing
to be still Sick he is Permitted to return into the Country for
6 Weeks longer.

Tuesday, 9 March 1779

Present as on yesterday, Thomas Sim Lee Esqr Attended
Ordered that the Commissary of Issues deliver to Joseph.
Tripp 50l Beef & 50l Bread for the Prisoner lately taken by
him
That the Commissary of Stores deliver to Colo Stone 3 1/2
yards Linen for himself
That the western shore Treasurer pay to William Murdock
Beall Three Pounds, fifteen shillings for the use of John Ball
per Certa Allowed by the Aud. Genl
Mr Hall and Mr Josias Beall from the House of Delegates
inform his Excellency that the House are ready to proceed to
Business and also Matthew Tilghman Esqr from the Senate
inform his Excellency that the Senate are ready to proceed to
Business
The Chester and Conqueror being now manned & equipped
with the Dolphin as a Tender fit for a Cruise of about two
Months you are to take the Command of the whole Force and
with it Proceed for the Protection of the Trade at and about
the Capes, We expect that the Virginia armed Vessels are
acting or ready to act in the same Service and it is our wish
that the whole Force may join and pursue the common Object
in Concert. Capt. Nicholson having taken a temporary Com-
mission with a view to give all Assistance in his Power the
