[Council to Howard.]

In Council Annapolis 4th Jany 1779
Sir
Mr Gale who will deliver you this will also deliver to you
28,000 £ and a Letter to Genl Smallwood; the Money is de-
signed to be sent to him for the Purposes of paying the 150£
allowed by the Assembly to the Maryland Officers and the
State Bounty to the nine Months Men who reinlist.
We have been induced to desire you to take Care of and de-
liver the Money to Genl Smallwood from Capt Landsdales in-
forming us you have the Command of a Party of the Maryland
Troops who are to go to the Jersies and join the other Mary-
land Troops there, and are very glad so favourable an

Opportunity has presented.
We have also directed 100 Pair of Shoes and 100 Pair of
Stockings to be sent you for your Men, which we expect
you'll receive about the Time of your receiving this; we could
not furnish Shirts.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Frederick
Grammer for the Use of John Laypole Sixty two Pounds, one
shilling and Twelve Pounds one shilling & six pence due him
per Acct passed by the p. C. to Aud. Gl
That the said Treasurer pay to Zachariah Allen Fifty seven
Pounds Fifteen shillings for the use of George Ranken p ace'
passed by the p. Cl. to A. Gl

Wednesday 6th January 1779

Present as on yesterday. Thomas Sim Lee Esqr attended.
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Capt Beriah
Maybury Ninty nine Pounds, eighteen Shillings and six Pence
per Account passed by the Prinl Cl. to the Aud. Gl and also
the further Sum of Fifty Pounds on Account
