To Captain Josias Daniell Commandr of his Mats granted to hired Ship the Prince of Orange (here Riding) and Capt Danil &to William Ockman & Isaac Young, Lievtents of the
sd Ship Greeting Whereas I am given to understand Prince of Or- & am credibly informed how that a certain Privateer ange to take a Privateer, or Pyrat of considerable fforce and number of men doth now lye infesting the Bay of Delaware within his Mats Province of Pensilvania to the great disquietude and Damage not only of the inhabitants & others Residing there abouts, but also of his Mats good People within this Province, & more Especially of the Seefaring men trading hither, whereby severall Servants & Saylors have been lately known to Runaway & desert their Masters Service and Ship them selves on board the sd Privateer; And it being adjudged tht it may be to his Mats Speciall Service & good of the Countrey tht the sd Privateer be Subdued & Seized, Have therefore thought fit to Authorize and Empower you the sd Capt Josias Daniell William Ockman and Isaac Young or any of you to pass through this Province (in Ordr to goe to the sd place by Land) with such force of men; Arms and Amunition &ca as you shall think needfull, upon this Occasion; hereby willing and requiring as also Strictly charging & Commanding all Officers Military and Civill within Caecill County to be Aiding and assisting to you the sd Capt Daniell Wm Ockman & Isaac Younge or any of you with horses and other Suitable Neces p. 37 saries for the more Speedy effecting the Sd Design; And in case of the sd Privateers Resistance or fflying into yor County for Refuge, the Colonel thereof & Sherriff are thereupon Straitly Enjoyned to Raise the whole County to Secure them, hereby strictly Commanding & prohibiting all persons from any ways aiding, sheltring, protecting or assisting the sd Pri vateers or any of them; And tht whosoever shall be found tarde herein be forthwith Seized & sent down to the Port of Annapolis, there to be dealt withall according to Law; for all WCh this shall be Sufficient Power & authority; Given undr the Broad Seal of the Province this 13th day of October in the 8th year of the Reign of our Soveraign Lord King William the Third &ca Annoq Domini 1696. ffr: Nicholson.
