   the constant practice of this province they have Ordinaryly Lib. H. D.

   used to depart & goe out of their Counties, and We have

  

   not known any Evill thereby; But that the high Sheriff only p. 399

   can raise the posse Comitatus wch is humbly submitted to your

   The Report The sd Report was approved off, and it was Or-

   approved off

   abt the Sher- dered thereupon as it is hereby Ordered that (for

   ifs &Cca the future) no Sheriffe depart or leave his County

  

   (during his Shrivalty) unless particularly sent for by his Exncy

   the Governr or that they come up to the Port of Annapolis in

   Aprill the vsual time when they make up their Accous being

   otherwise (by the Opinion of the Lawyers) deemed to be con

   trary to the Law of England.

                  October the 3d 1696.         Whitehall

   The Return A Return was made of the above Warrant and a

   of Coll: Coods bagg bag of papers belonging to the sd Cood was pro

  of papers  duced to this Board by the Under Sheriffe of St

  &cca     Maries County close sealed up pursuant to the afore

  

   sd Ordr which were delivered to the Clerk of the Councill for

   his keeping, till a further opportunity Offered for prusing the

   same.

  

              Munday, October the 5th 1696

  

   Papers prused The sd bagg of papers was by Ordr again pro-

   by his Mats duced, broke open and prused by his Mats honrble

   honrble Coun- Councill, but finding nothing materiall, save a Navi

  

  back &ca gation Bond which was Ordered to be delivered to

           Mr Attorney Genul and 3: or 4: Letters passed

  

   betwixt Doctr Payne and him about his Commissaries Office Whitehall

   the sd papers were put up again and Ordered to be Return'd

   to the Mr Cood by the Officer that brought them.

  

   The Coronr The Coroner of this Port having made a Return

   of the port

   of Annapolis of the Inquest by him taken upon the body of a

   Return abt Person Yesterday decd: within the same Suspected

   a decd: per

  son &cca to be murthered; and upon complaint made that

           some of the Man of Warrs Seamen were concern'd

  

   therein; Ordered that Copy thereof be sent to Capt Daniell

   Commander of his Mats hired Ship the Prince of Orange who

   is hereby desired to bring his Doctor and what other Doctors

   are near, on Shore, for to veiw the body and do what further
