Some late successes we have had against the ifrench pri p. 25 vatteers have discouraged them from infesting our Coasts as formerly and his Majesty hath furnished Us with a ffrigott that Sailes extremely well which wee hope will secure our Navigation for the time to come. We have Recd advice from Whitehall that a Squadron of Ships with some Land fforces was preparing in ffrance, to make Some attempt upon the American Colonys; We are therefore with all possible dili gence putting our Island into a posture of Defence, in case the Design should be against Us. And we hope God will defeat both this and all other the undertakings of the ffrench King, this being what Offers worthy yor Advice at pTsent Subscribe Yor humble Servant ffran Bond presidt Geo: Mus- William R champs Commission William the Third by the Grace of God of England for being Scotland ifrance and Ireland King Defendr of the Potomock ifaith &c to all whom these presents shall come District Greeting Know Yee that we reposing Especiall Trust and Confidence in the ability care and fidelity of our Trusty and well beloved George Muschamp Esqr of our Espe ciall Grace certain knowledge and meer Motion have Ordained Constituted and appointed and by these presents doe Ordain Constitute and appoint him the sd George Muschamp our Receiver of our Revenue Raised or to be Raised for the Sup port of our Governmt within the precincts of the River of Potomock within our Province of Maryland in America with full power and authority to Levy Collect and receive all man ner of Revenues duty's Imposts and proffits which are or shall from time to time grow due to Us for the support of our Government, within our sd Province within the sd Precinct such dutys & Revenues only Excepted as by our Ordr in Councill bearing date the 26th in the Third Year of our Reign We have declared to belong to our Right Trusty and well beloved Charles Lord Baltemore as Proprietor of our province and for the care and paines of him the sd George Muschamp in about the Execution of the sd Office and Imploy ment We have given and Granted and by these prsents doe give & Grant unto him the said George Muschamp the fee or Salary of one hundred pounds p Annum out of our Revenues dutys Imposts and Proffits arising within the Pre cincts aforesd to have hold Exercise and Enjoy the sd Office and Imploymt of our Receiver of our sd Revenues dutys
