Lib. H. U. Mr John Carvi!e late Sherriffe of Caecill County and Mr Eph Whitehall raim Wilson late Sherriffe of Somerset County; Ordered there
fore that they be Severally Summoned to Appear at the next Provll Court, and that Mr Attorney & Solicitor Genll proceed agt them for Contempt, and that such of them as do not appear by the sd Summons be prosecuted for the same likewise. Ordr abt Ordered that the Sherriffs of the Severall Counties the Sherriffs of the Province or their Depties do take under the hand of the Master, Mistress, Dame or Overseer of ables &cca every ifamily house or Plantation within their re spective precincts an Accot in writing of all the Tythable persons there Residing at the Same time they Usually go abt to Collect the Leavys and that where there happens any dis pute abt the Age of any prsons that in such Case a Return be P. 392 made by the Sherriffs, of the Names of such persons unto the Justices of the County Courts in Ordr to be adjudged, that the said Sherriffs doe not faile to return the Severall afore mentioned Accts (by them so to be taken) unto his Exncy at the port of Annapolis With all Convenient Speed. Ordr abt the Upon Representacon, Ordered that no ship that for the future is Seized be Appraised but lye under Sips & Ves- Seizure till tryed, it being found that such Appraise rnts are usually under made and the Goods &CCa Undervalued, as appears by a late Appraisemt made of Capt E!ys Ship and Goods, particularly a Copper ffurnace, Valued at one pound, but is really worth 10: or 12 lbs sterl. Whitehall . Munday Septemb. the 21th 1696.
The Council again Sate and were prsent as on Saturday. Order for Mr U on Representacon, Ordered that Mr Attorney Attorney & Sollicitor and Solicitor Gen” return their opinion unto this Genlls Opin- Board what remedy is to be had against those persons ion abt Ships that come out of one District, and Ship Tobacco &
one port to ifurs &cca on Board Ships Riding in another Dis another. trict, before they have Certified the same before the
Officer where such Ship Rides.
They Report thereon as follows, Vizt. Mr Att?rney May it please yor Exncy. & Solicitor - Genlls Opin- In Obedience to yor ncy's Commands We have
Whitehall ion abt Ships prused your Exncy's Ordr of Reference and do humbly coming from one District Report, That a Certificate had from an Officer of to another, another District that the duty of ifurs imposed by
an Act of Assembly being there Answered & paid is a suffi cient discharge for so much mentioned in that Certificate, and
