    Ordered that an Instrument for that end be drawn up to Lib. H. D.

  pass the broad Seal of the province wch was accordingly done

  & Signed by his Exncy & passed &ca and followes in these

  Words Vizt.

 

  Ann Smiths William the Third by the Grace of God King of Whitehall

  Reprieve

   England Scotland, ffrance and Ireland Defender of

  the ifaith &cca To William Holland Senr high Sherriffe of our p. 374

  County of Ann Arrundell Greeting.—Whereas you lately

  Received a Warrant from Us (under our broad Seal of Mary

  land Dated the 9th of this Instant July) for executing one Ann

  Smith Spinster of our sd County, who was lately Indicted

  tryed and Convicted for murthering a Negro Boy; But foras

  much as it hath been represented unto Us that She is become

  exceeding penitent and Sorry for the same and may be deemed

  a fit Object of mercy; And more Especially calling to mind

  the infinite goodness and mercy of Almighty God lately

  extended unto our Self by preserving our Royall person from

  a late intended assassination, Do therefore Command tht you

  (at prsent) forbear Executing the sd Ann Smith untill you

  shall Receive our further Ordr therein; Given under the

  Broad Seal of our sd Province this 1th day of July in the

  Eighth year of our Reign &cca Annoqr Domini 1696. Witness

  our trusty and well beloved ffrancis Nicholson Esqr Capt

  Genll and Governr in Cheif in and over our sd province and

  Territory of Maryland.

          Read the following Petition, Vizt.

 

         To his Exncy the Governr in Councill

 

                      The Petition of Thomas Tench.

    Most humbly Sheweth.

  Thomas That in Ordr to the fitting out and making a Voy

  Tench Esq his Peticon    age to the Island of Maderas, with the Ship Ann of

  abt a Ships    Maryland Since her Tryall & acquittall at a Speciall

  foresayle &

  Rigging Court of Oyer and Terminer at Battle town in

  & Ordr  Petuxant River; yor Petitionr having also on board

  thereon.               . .

          her some Commodities or merchandize proper for

 

  the sd Voyage, did procure and put on board her great ffore

  sayle and a parcell of New Rigging of the proper Goods and

  Chattells of yor Petitionr and in no wise before that belonging

  or appertaing to the sd Ship.

    That Since it so happeneth that the sd Ship lyes now under Whitehall

  Seizure in Custody of the Law, without any hopes or prospect

  as yoT petr humbly Conceives of making the sd Voyage or any

  other part in any Seasonable time untill such time as the sd
