Part of a Lre Mr Waters Carryed away in the Brigantine a &ca Portugueez Boy against his Consent, who was one touching a wee sent with him in the Night to Shew him the way portugeez aboard, and getting him on board detayned him there
which was very ill Done and has given Us much trouble here with the Bishop of this Island, We have Engaged to Return him again, therefore please to let him be sent pr ffirst and ought to be at the mastrs Cost also carryed away a p. 369 Chest and Cloaths that belonged to a mate of a Pink whom he promised to Carry with him in his Brigantine please to secure sd Chest and Cloaths for its right Ownr Via New York. March the 10th 1696. Sr To the foregoing have nothing to add but Confirmation and to Continue our Requests concerning a Portugeez boy we Request may be sent pr first Vessell that offers from thence or New York, this day Arriv'd a ship from Lizn but no News from England with due reguards we Kiss yor hands and remain Srs yor most humble Servants Rich: Miles & Rich: Bell
Maryland: ss His Exncys Whereas it hath been Represented unto me in apprehend Councill by Thomas Ennalls of Dorchester County ing Jeremi: Mercht that one Jeremi: Waters Master of the Brigan Waters tine belonging partly to the sd Thomas Ennalis late
Come from the Madera's did at his departure and coming from thence ciandestonly and in an Unjust manner bringing with him a Portugueez boy agt his will by Occasion whereof the English Consul of that place hath Received some trouble and inconveniency and hath advised the sd Thomas Ennalls thereof and that he the sd Consul stands ingaged for the sd boys Return there again & because the sd Thomas is now fitting out a Ves sell for that place again & that the sd Jeremi: Water did not bring the sd boy into this province with him but left him at Carolina where he touch, Coming in hither &cca These are therefore to will and Require and to Straitly Charge and Command You the severall sherriffs of this prov ince all or any of You in Whose bayliwick the sd Jeremi: Waters shall be found that immediately upon Sight hereof you apprehend and take into Your Custody the body of the sd Jeremi: Waters and him in Safe Custody Keep till you have Convey'd him before some one of his Mats most honrble Coun
