       Lib. H. D. Reported, whereby his Mats Customs are defrauded and the

          P. 322 Sd persons Esteemed & Reputed as dangerous to the Gov

      

             ernmt by keeping such correspondence as aforesd and that

             when Apprehended & taken they be securely brought before

             his Excell in Councill with all possible speed, to Answer &ca

      

      

                        May the 4th 1696.

      

                 The Councill again Sate & were prsent as before.

      

             Majr Whit- Read a Letter from Majr William Whittington

             tington con-

             tinned Sife of of the 27th of Aprill past to hls Excell sent & di

        p. 323 Somerset rected, therein praying the continuance of his Sheriffs

                 y place, to which his Excell is pleased to say that it is

      

      a thing of course, and therefore Ordered that he be continued

             accordingly.

      

   Whitehall          Read the following Information, Vizt

      

           Coll Her- The Information of Coll Casparus Augustin Her-

                    man concerning Peter Basilion & Capt Letort, as

           ing Basilion follows, vizt

             & Letort

      

               This Informant saith that Basilion does now live at St. Jones's

             but formerly lived about thirty Miles backwards from any

             inhabitants, where he treated with the Indians & was then

             Reported that he kept private correspondence with the Canida

             Indians & the ifrench, and since he has heard that he has a

             Brother taken by the Mahages from Canada, to whom he was

             intended to go, in Ordr to Redeem him.

               That Capt Letort a ffrenchman does now live back in the

             Woods in the same place where the sd Basilion formerly lived

             & trades with the Indians, as he is credibly informed; to

             which said Information the Sd Coll Herman hath herevnto set

             his hand; this first day of May, A° 1696.

                                      Casp:    August Herman.

      

      Whitehall Ordered that the sd Information be sent to the Govr of

             Pensilvania, the persons therein mentioned living in that

             Governmt

      

                        May the 5th 1696.

      

      Whitehall Produced at the Board the following Proclamation pursuant

             to Ordr issued, which being pervsed, Read & approved off,

             was signed by his Excell & passed the Broad Seal of the

             province.
