                          Answer to the Letter, Vizt

                          Maryland, Port Annapolis Aprill 17th 96.

             His Excelis

             Letter to the

             Governr of Mr Smith of Rode Island gave me your Excells

             New York Letter of March the 28th and the Answer of your

             other of the of ffebry had been despatched sooner but that

             I was in dayly hopes of the arrivall of our London ffleet, so

             that I might have sent your Excell some good News from

             England; but the last I have from Plymouth I send by Perry;

             and all my Letters (thank God) bring the good Account that

             his Majesty & the parliment Agree very well, and that they

             will comply with all his Maties Demands. I am very sorry that

             the fforces which are lately come over vndergo any hardships

             and especially that they have but 8d New York Money p

             diem, and I shall be glad to be any ways assisting to you,

             being a Weliwisher to Soldiers. And if all his Majesties

             Governrs vpon the Continent will give the Tithe of their

             Annuall Incomes towards bettering their condition, for my

             part, I shall most readily doe it. In the interim shall not now

             be wanting in my duty to Represent that Affair to our

             Assembly as it hath formerly been done by him who is
